Two ways to delete your account
In the app
- Open Profile.
- Tap Settings, then Account.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Read the warning, then confirm.
For security we may ask for your PIN, a one-time code (OTP) or another identity check before we finish.
Without the app
- Email support@meegoapps.com with the subject “Delete my account”.
- Send it from the email address on your account, or include your account’s phone number.
- We may reply to confirm it is you before we start.
Deleting your account signs you out and deactivates it. Your saved card, QR code and profile can no longer be used. Some financial records may be kept where the law or fraud prevention requires it. This can’t easily be undone.
Account deletion policy
1.Purpose#
This Account Deletion Policy explains how a MeeGo Pay user can request deletion of their account and what happens to their personal information, payment information, transaction history, QR code, and other account data after a deletion request.
MeeGo Pay respects a user’s right to control their personal information.
However, because MeeGo Pay facilitates financial transactions, some information may be required to be retained for legal, regulatory, accounting, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, security, or other legitimate purposes.
Therefore:
Deleting a MeeGo Pay account does not necessarily mean that every record associated with the account is immediately and permanently erased.
Information that MeeGo Pay is legally required or legitimately permitted to retain will be securely retained for the applicable period and deleted or anonymized when the retention requirement expires.
2.Who Can Request Account Deletion#
Any registered MeeGo Pay user may request deletion of their account.
This includes:
- Individual users
- Business users
- Users who use MeeGo Pay to make payments
- Users who receive payments
- Users who use both payment and receiving functionality
Because every MeeGo Pay account can both send and receive money, the same deletion procedure applies to all account types.
3.How to Delete a MeeGo Pay Account#
The preferred method is through the MeeGo Pay application.
In-App Flow
The user should navigate to:
- Profile
- Settings
- Account
- Delete Account
The application should display a warning explaining the consequences of deletion.
The user must then confirm that they want to permanently delete their account.
For security, MeeGo Pay may require the user to:
- Enter their account PIN or password
- Complete OTP verification
- Confirm their phone number or email
- Complete additional identity verification where necessary
4.Account Deletion Confirmation#
Before deletion is finalized, the application should display a confirmation screen.
Example:
Delete your MeeGo Pay account?
Deleting your account will sign you out and deactivate your MeeGo Pay account.
Your saved payment methods, QR code and account profile will no longer be available for normal use.
Some transaction, identity and financial records may be retained where required by law, regulation, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution or other legitimate purposes.
This action cannot be easily reversed.
CancelDelete Account
The user must explicitly confirm the deletion.
5.Important Requirements Before Account Deletion#
Before allowing the account to be deleted, MeeGo Pay should check whether the user has:
- Pending payments
- Pending payouts
- Failed payouts requiring resolution
- Pending refunds
- Active disputes
- Chargebacks
- Unresolved fraud investigations
- Outstanding balances
- Funds that have not yet been paid out
- Other unresolved financial obligations
If any of these exist, MeeGo Pay may temporarily prevent final deletion until the relevant financial activity has been completed or otherwise resolved.
The user should still be allowed to request account closure, but the account may remain in a restricted/deactivated state until the outstanding matter is resolved.
6.Pending Transactions#
An account should not be permanently destroyed while a financial transaction is still being processed.
7.What Happens to the User's Account#
Once deletion is confirmed:
The user’s account should be marked:
DELETION_REQUESTED
The user should immediately lose the ability to initiate new payments or receive new payments through the account.
The account should then move through:
- ACTIVE
- DELETION_REQUESTED
- RESTRICTED
- DELETION_PROCESSING
- DELETED / ANONYMIZED
Where financial or legal obligations remain, the account may remain in a restricted state until those matters are resolved.
8.Information Deleted or Anonymized#
Where there is no legal or legitimate reason to retain the information, MeeGo Pay should delete or anonymize applicable information.
This may include:
Account Profile
- Display name
- Profile information
- Non-required contact information
- Profile photo
- Preferences
- Marketing preferences
Payment Methods
Where technically and legally appropriate:
- Saved card reference/token
- Card nickname
- Card status
- Other user-managed payment-method information
MeeGo Pay should not retain raw card numbers or CVV information as part of its normal application database.
Card information should remain handled through the applicable payment provider/tokenization system.
QR Code
The user’s active MeeGo Pay QR code should be disabled.
The QR code should no longer allow new payments to the deleted account.
9.Transaction Records#
Transaction records should not necessarily be immediately deleted.
MeeGo Pay may need to retain transaction information for:
- Financial reconciliation
- Accounting
- Tax requirements
- Fraud prevention
- Chargebacks
- Dispute resolution
- Payment-provider requirements
- Regulatory requirements
- Legal claims
- Auditing
Payment providers such as Flutterwave similarly state that certain personal and transaction information may need to be retained after account closure to meet regulatory and anti-money-laundering obligations and for fraud monitoring.
Where retention is required, MeeGo Pay should:
- Restrict access to the information.
- Store it securely.
- Use it only for the legitimate purpose requiring retention.
- Delete or anonymize it when the retention period expires.
10.KYC and Identity Information#
MeeGo Pay may collect identity information for account verification and financial compliance.
Examples include:
- Full legal name
- National identification information
- Date of birth
- Identification documents
- Verification records
- Business verification information
Deletion of an account does not automatically require immediate deletion of all KYC information.
Where KYC information must be retained under applicable financial, anti-money-laundering, fraud-prevention or other legal requirements, MeeGo Pay will securely retain the information for the required period.
After the applicable retention period, MeeGo Pay should delete or anonymize the information unless another lawful basis for retention applies.
11.Mobile Money Information#
The user’s mobile-money payout information may include:
- Mobile network
- Mobile-money number
- Recipient name
- Payout references
- Payout status
- Provider transaction reference
The active payout method shall be disabled when the account is deleted.
Historical payout information may be retained where required for financial records, reconciliation, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, accounting, or legal compliance.
12.Payment Provider Information#
MeeGo Pay uses third-party payment service providers to process certain transactions.
Deleting a MeeGo Pay account does not automatically delete information held independently by the payment provider.
Third-party providers will handle information according to their own privacy policies and applicable legal requirements..
13.What Happens to the User's QR Code#
When an account is deleted:
QR STATUS = DISABLED
The QR code must no longer initiate payments to the deleted account.
If someone scans the old QR code, the system should display:
This MeeGo Pay account is no longer active.
The system must not allow new payments to be sent to the deleted account.
14.What Happens to Incoming Payments#
After deletion is requested:
Receiving payments = DISABLED
Any attempt to pay the deleted account should fail before a new payment is created.
The system should return a clear message:
This MeeGo Pay account is no longer accepting payments.
This is particularly important because MeeGo Pay users can both send and receive payments.
15.What Happens to Saved Cards#
Once account deletion is confirmed:
- Remove the user’s active card from the MeeGo Pay account.
- Invalidate the card token/reference where supported by the payment provider.
- Remove the card from the user’s available payment methods.
- Do not retain unnecessary card information.
MeeGo Pay should never store CVV information in its own database.
16.Recurring or Automatic Payments#
If MeeGo Pay introduces recurring payments, subscriptions, scheduled payments, or other automatic payment arrangements in the future, all active arrangements should be reviewed before account deletion.
Where applicable:
- ACTIVE RECURRING PAYMENT
- CANCEL
- ACCOUNT DELETION
The user should not be charged through an automatic payment arrangement after account deletion unless the charge is required to resolve an already-existing lawful financial obligation.
17.Data Deletion vs. Account Deactivation#
The system must distinguish between:
Account Deactivation
The account cannot be used, but certain information remains available to MeeGo Pay.
Account Deletion
The account is permanently removed from normal operational systems and information that is no longer required is deleted or anonymized.
Regulatory Retention
Certain information remains securely stored because MeeGo Pay has a legal, regulatory, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, or dispute-resolution reason to retain it.
